The Big Three in Economics: Adam Smith, Karl Marx, and John Maynard Keynes Essay

Economics Introduction                   Adam Smith and Karl Marx are some of the few economists whose school of thoughts impacted the world’s economy through different generations. Smith argued that when individuals of a society work in self-interest, they collectively afford to acquire services and goods the society requires. This mechanism is famously known as â€Å"the invisible hand,† in Adam’s book The Wealth of Nations. Contrast with Adam’s theory, Karl Marx believes that a capitalist will take advantage of his labor forces for his own self-interest, and therefore it is better for individuals to be community oriented(Jingham & Girija, 2014).                   According to Smith, economic recession is the situation where there is a drop in the economy. Lack of employment is one of the indicators of a recession situation. Therefore, if each individual takes the initiative to generate income for self-interest, they will end up collectively averting an economic recession period.                   According to Karl Marx, greed and self-interest are not good for businesses and they are hazards in the society. Greed in business can occur when the rich business owners take advantage of their employees for their own self-interest and growth(Skousen, 2012). This amplifies the gap between the poor and the rich.                   However. Greed and self-interest can also be beneficial to any given business and society. Adam Smith’s school of thought contradicts with the moral values and ethics on greed andself-interest(Jingham & Girija, 2014). Greed will make individuals work extra hard in their distinct fields and, in the long run, these individual self-motivated interests add up to the aggregate well-being of the business. An example is an accountant, a procurement manager, the marketer, and the administrator, all working with self-interest will eventually jointly contribute greatly to the success of the business and the society.                   According to my current group, it is ethical for each member to work jointly with the rest of the members to achieve the group’s set objectives. Greed and self-interest are considered unethical for the group because it may lead to the dissolving of the group. This ethical perspective resemblesKarl Marx theory, since the aim of the group is to join us together for better achievement of our goals. References Jingham, M., & Girija, M. (2014). St. Joan of Arc biography

Arc is not only widely known all over the world for her trust in God, but for her outrageous bravery. In this heroic story of Saint Joan of Arc, everyone will be inspired for the courage of this young lady, who laid her life down for her faith, and for her country. Born to devout Catholic parents Jacques d'art and Isabella Rome, SST. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in the small village of Dormer, France. She was one of five children which lived on a fifty acre farm which was in the north-eastern part of France. In 1412 at the age of twelve, Joan experienced visions when she was alone in field. The angels of Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Catherine of Alexandria, and Saint Margaret the Virgin, had appeared to her and told her to drive out the English in France. She was very surprised that the angels had appeared to her, a woman, to do such a Job. When she was sixteen years old, she went to see Count Robert De Bureaucratic, who was an army commander in the town of Vacuoles, to get permission to see the royal French court. Count Robert De Bureaucratic did not take her seriously and made a Joke of Joan and her visions. He then sent her home.Along with two other en in January 1429, she returned to have a meeting with the Count to tell him a prediction she had made about an upcoming battle. When Joan was proved right about her prediction, Count Robert De Bureaucratic granted her permission to have a meeting with the Charles VI'. She dressed up as a man and was then escorted along with six other men to Chino. During the private conference with Charles VI', he was very impressed with Joan and her ideas. She also won the favor with Charles' mother- in-law and she was sent on an expedition to Orleans. They thought of her as their only source of light and hope in the hard times of France. After multiple years of the French being humiliated in battle, Joan yet again asked a favor of Charles VI'. She requested for herself to be placed as one of the commanders of t he French army. He granted her request by acknowledging the fact that every single one of his plans and strategies have failed, and there was a need for a new plan. Joan then took control of the army, with her intelligent strategies and tactics, and proceeded to win many battles. With Joan in command, the war was reversed, in favor of the French. She showed outrageous courage and bravery by the many things that she has done in battle. She was also very determined by fighting even after being wounded in the neck by an arrow. The victory of the battle of Orleans was only one of the many battles won. The victory led to the necessity of more offensive action. She then persuaded Charles VII once again, by placing her in co-command of the entire army with Duke John II of Alnico. On May 23, 1430 Joan was captured during an attempted attack and was held a prisoner of war.She was unable to be released by Charles VIII not intervening with he Duke Philip of Burgundy. Charles VII and the French did not try to save her. She tried to escape many times even by Jumping from a seventy foot tower in which she was held in. Later, the English government then bought Joan for ten thousand francs from Duke Philip of Burgundy and put her under trial. While under trial, Joan was mainly accused of being a heretic, sorceress, and adulteress. People have tried to collect testimony against her, but they could not find any evidence.Along with the insufficient evidence, the court violated ecclesiastical law by denying her the right to have a legal advisor. The trial had tried many times to accuse Joan of different laws broken, but her intelligence had proved them wrong. Under certain guidelines, Joan should of been placed in an ecclesiastical prison under the supervision of nuns, but instead, he was held in a secular prison and was guarded by actual solders. In conclusion to her trial, she was condemned and sentenced to burn at stake. On May 30, 1941, only being 19 years old, she was tied to o tall pillar in front of a large crowd. Before being tied, she had asked clergymen to hold a crucifix before her while he would be consumed by the burning fire. Immediately after her body had finished burning, the English had burned her remains once more, so that her bodily remains would only be ashes. Afterwards, they castes her remains into the nearby river called the Seine. About 24 years past Jean's death, the Hundred Years' War had ended. The weak rule of the young King Henry VI ended the war between France and England. Her ultimate goal of bringing Charles VII was successful. In 1452, Jean's case had been put on retrial by Pope Casualties Ill.The main issues f the retrial was to investigate if the original trial had been handled Justly or not. Many different clergymen conducted this investigation, and in June 1456, the court declared her innocent. In conclusion, it wasn't until 1909 when Joan was beatified. On May 16, 1920, she was cannonaded a saint and martyr in the Holy Rom an Catholic Church by Pope Benedict W. Her saint name is now Saint Joan of Arc and is the patron saint of soldiers and France. Also, Many Catholics around the world look up to Saint Joan of Arc as a role model and inspiration. Her feast day is celebrated on May 30th every year.

A Study On The Biology And Health Essay Vaccination, Immune system, V

The Necessity of Vaccines in the Modern World Vaccines are a controversial topic in modern issues, there has been the of an anti-vaccine movement, bent on stopping the immunization of children. This movement fears that their children will contract Autism through vaccines. Should va... ...person, in the interest of the nation as a whole. While neither extreme is good, something needs to be done to keep the vaccination rate under control. Therefore as just as how the affordable care act required that Americans buy health insurance to insure themselves, and that if they do not they would be taxed a certain amount(Cornell), just so, we should pass a law or include an amendment on the Affordable care act to include vaccinations of those able to receive it as a requirement(Cornell). Without a doubt this action will cause many to be upset, and many will oppose this action, the supreme court has already affirmed that the US has the right to tax, and thus the fee levied by this action will be treated as a tax. Thus we should make vaccination mandatory, the beliefs of a few persons is easily outweighed by the safety we need to provide to the nation as a whole.

HYPNOTHERAPY - Essay Example Thus, in this way monotony to the visual sense can be achieved by hypnotist. When depriving a subject of a habitual pleasure such as smoking, following suggestion could be given to compensate for the deprivation: â€Å"Cigarette smoking will fill you with disgust. From this moment on and always in the future, any tobacco smoke entering your mouth or nostrils, will taste and smell like burning rubber. You should refuse to accept the cigarette†. To generate emotion in the subject, the hypnotist must steer the subject towards nervous apprehension. The hypnotist should alter the voice, move closer to the subject and apply in a carefully articulated monotone with a slow, monotonous rhythm. The hypnotist should make sure that what aromas or smells are present in the room at the beginning of a session, do not suddenly fade to produce an obvious sensory change. In addition, one should make certain that no new or unfamiliar smell enters the room to alter the established pattern of olfactory impressions. This is the way to apply monotony to the sense of smell. Whilst being hypnotised, the subjects eyelids may be inclined to flutter or twitch. This indicates that he is still consciously aware of the existence of his eyelids, and of the need to control them if the eyes are to remain closed. The hypnotist should thank the difficult subject reassuringly, and should try to give him the feeling that something positive has been achieved. Thus, the hypnotist can protect his image against the possibility of failing to hypnotise the difficult subjects. A hypnotist should tell that he I going to place his/her hand on the left shoulder of one member of a group of hypnotised subjects, until then the subject has to remain asleep ignoring all the suggestions. Then, when the individual feel that it is his turn now, then the subject will immediately start responding to all the suggestions made by hypnotist. For mass hypnosis, forego the

Another strong point of Haagen-Dazs is its decision to penetrate the global countries particularly in Japan, the United States, Canada, London, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Taiwan, and South Korea. Reaching out for the global market contributes to a bigger global share for Haagen-Dazs. A good marketing strategy was used by the company in terms of their decision to penetrate the five-star hotels and high-class restaurants. The said marketing promotion by giving the customers who purchase at least a 500ml tub of Haagen-Dazs ice cream products would receive a free voucher which entitles them for a discounted meal for two among the participating restaurants. This strategy was effective in encourage the spread of word-of-mouth which creates a brand awareness Lastly, the company uses a massive marketing distribution such as the retail stores, supermarket chains, delicatessen, cinemas, convenience stores, bakeries up to video stores, etc. Considering the good quality product, store outlets were carefully chosen by the marketers. Unlike in other multi-national companies that manufacture ice-cream products, Haagen-Dazs is focused only in producing luxury ice-cream. This makes Haagen-Dazs lose some market shares who prefers product that ranges between economy to standard quality ice-cream. When other competitors started to follow the foot-step of Haagen-Dazs in terms of producing an extra luxury ice cream at a much lower price, Haagen-Dazs was no where to go but to shred of some of their market shares with the competitors. The only way for Haagen-Dazs to be able to win back its market share is by producing a much better quality ice cream at the same price or produce a lower quality ice cream at a much lower price. I believe that the strongest quality that Haagen-Dazs was able to create is

Article Review on Technology in Education Assignment

Article Review on Technology in Education - Assignment Example Videoconferencing at present is a medium for learning partnerships both in the local scene and in the international setup. Reynard (2012) cited â€Å"the inclusion of video increases the sense of presence,† and considers this as a means of collaboration. This educational tool has evolved in the recent years to include media tools, such as chat, as well as interactive whiteboards, which increase the exchange of ideas and resources alike, taking learning and the accumulation of knowledge to new heights (Reynard, 2012). This promotes access to what is otherwise accessible – locations which are commonly not that open to the public and expert educators who are too geographically distant; in reference to inaccessible locations, virtual tours are utilized (Reynard, 2012). Another advantage of this modern day educational tool is that it can make available the unavailable, such as classes not normally offered in the school, or those beyond the normal hours of school, which would be highly advantageous for those who are not able to avail of normal class hours (Reynard, 2012). Another important benefit of videoconferencing is that it helps students go the extra mile – tutoring and enrichment activities online, in real time, and without geographical constraints (Reynard, 2012). ... Furthermore, technology like videoconferencing may bridge the gap between different cultures as it provides worldwide reach to all students; this would yield better-informed students and well versed in aspects in which traditional students are not due to limited access to resources. There would be constant updates of any advancement or modification in education across the globe, as this education tool goes beyond geographical boundaries. In the future, students would be more interested and involved to learn as videoconferencing offers them interactive learning. It would give new meaning to the term – experience – since this teaching strategy would make the learners feel as if they are in that particular scenario, hence, making them believe like it was their own personal experience. There would probably be an increase in the number of students, as those who do not have the luxury of time could avail of such dynamic and effective education made very convenient to them sin ce it is not bound by normal school hours. Personal Opinion: How Technology will Shape Education in the Future Technology is evolving, as it is used in the field of education, so will the latter evolve, as well. Education will be better, as technology will constantly upgrade, so will the skills of the students. Thus, to keep up with complex learning needs brought about by modernized educational tools utilized by students, educators will adapt to such modernity. They will be well equipped with modern strategies to address learning needs. In the process, education will reach new heights. The standard of education would be further uplifted, producing more competitive

Latin American Market Vs. U.S Market Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Latin American Market Vs. U.S Market - Essay Example The paper discusses the anticipated market positioning of the company in the U.S.A., Mexico and Latin America. The Volkswagen Group of Latin America is today regarded as the leading automobile company in Latin America (Seume, 2001). This is not the case in the United Sates where there is a lot of competition in the automobile industry. The public has perceived the Volkswagen passenger cars as powerful vehicles in Latin America and in the United States. However, Volkswagen currently does not boast of being a top brand in the U.S. market especially given that its brands have proven to be less reliable compared to those of competitors. The U.S. market largely demands products that are highly reliable with a touch of luxury. The U.S. market also places a lot of emphasis on quality. In consideration of the above, Volkswagen should do its best to assure its customers in the U.S. market of quality, reliability and moderate pricing. In Latin America and Mexico where the income per capita and disposable income of nationals is lower compared to the U.S. statistics (Kotabe & Leal, 2001), the company should position itself as an affordable alternative to beautiful cars. The company should thus price its products relatively lower than competitors taking caution to produce more compact cars in view of production costs. The Volkswagen group in Latin America has set new records as far as sales revenue, vehicle sales and earnings are concerned. The Volkswagen Company has expanded its market share in Latin America as its distribution network has become more robust. In the United States, the company should strive to double its market share; from two percent to four percent by 2014 (Seume, 2001). Volkswagen in the United States should expand its regional offices due to the predicted high sales. In the U.S., the car manufacturer needs to strengthen its relations with

The financial statements of a company must be prepared in conformance with the relevant accounting standards. There are accounting standards which prescribe the accounting treatment of intangible assets, contingent assets, contingent liabilities, presentation of statements etc. The adoption of these accounting standards in the case of Early Learning Services Limited has been reviewed as to whether the company has prepared its financial reports as per the accounting norms. AASB 101 â€Å"Presentation of Financial Statements† The accounting standards to be applied in Australia with effect from January 1, 2005 include International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs). International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) issues IFRSs. For reporting periods commencing on or after January 1, 2009 IASB made certain amendments to the IAS 1 ‘Presentation of Financial Statements’. In line with this AASB also made certain amendments to AASB 1 ‘Presentation of Financial Statements’ for enabling IFRS compliance of the reporting entities in Australia. The major changes to this standard as compared to AASB 101 issued in the year 2006 are discussed as under- Making the reporting comprehensive- The revised standard brings in a notion of ‘completeness’ in financial reporting. Previously this standard used the heads ‘balance sheet’ and ‘cash flow statement’ to refer to the two statements. On the other hand the revised standard uses ‘statement of financial position’ and ‘statement of cash flows’ to describe the above statements. As per the new rules an entity has to present comparative information with respect to the previous year. Disclosure relating to changes owners’ equity- Previously AASB 101 required items relating to expenses and income which are not shown as profit or loss to be reported in ‘statement of changes in equity’. The previous standard also required preparation of ‘statement of recognized income and expense’ comprising of profit or loss in the statement of changes in equity, any affects of accounting policy changes and any correction related error. The new amendments require â€Å"owner changes in equity† to be reported separately from â€Å"non-owner change s in equity†. The detail relating to comprehensive income is not permitted to be presented in the â€Å"statement of changes in equity†. The main aim of this is to integrate items with similar characteristics and separate items with varying characteristics to disseminate useful information. Changes relating to â€Å"Other comprehensive income†- As per the revised standard an entity has to make disclosure of income tax relating to each comprehensive income component. This was not required as per previous AASB 101 version. Dividend presentation- As per old AASB 101 the amount of ‘

Product, Price, Promotion & Placement Essay Example for Free

Product, Price, Promotion Placement Essay Product, Price, Promotion Placement Now that we have analyzed our marketing research and we have identified our potential target markets as being in the young adult to middle age adults and from the lower middle class and upward income bracket it is time to develop our plans to reach into these markets and grow IPT. How we target these markets is a series of techniques known as product, pricing, promotion and placement. We also know from the research that 35% of our customers would buy from a store front, 30% would order online or from a catalog, and our business customers would place direct orders. Product In the 4 â€Å"P’s† product is the lead element because this is what we sell and what we need to put in front of our customers. Our best products are always those that are unique or have a special niche market that does not have as much or less competition in the market. We have a special patented coating for our popcorn that sets us apart and this will be our lead product. Packaging of our product is especially important with a food related product. We want to emphasize the uniqueness and we want it to show, so we will use a clear bag with an Old Fashioned label that will be very appealing and desirable, our popcorn will look good unopened sitting on someone’s counter or table at home or in the office. Pricing Because our product is unique we can demand a higher price than the other run of the mill popcorn producers. As a premium product we also establish IPT as the premier high end popcorn treat producer. Our pricing will also stay well within the range of other high end products. The rest of our product lines will be priced within the average range of other similar treats. Bulk business orders will be discounted and our sales to the national flower and gift basket company will be wholesale allowing for mark up on resale. Promotion Promotion of our products will be three fold and very targeted. First we will increase the number of store front locations in the areas with the best demographics and remember the most important rule for a retail business location, location and location. This will put IPT solidly in the market area and the presence will give our brand the brick and mortar support as is done by Barnes Noble, Inc. From all of our storefront locations we will promote the IPT website for online ordering and placing orders with the national flower and gift basket company to send our products to friends and relatives across the nation and beyond. We will have to set up a strong website and we will use a professional hosting service to product the secure ordering, catalog creation and other site marketing features such as printable coupons for ordering that can be used at the brick and mortar store fronts. The website will also allow our business customer to place their orders and track the shipment. We wi ll be utilizing search engine registration and promotion to make sure we â€Å"pop† on all searches with key words like popcorn, gifts, treats, cookies, sweets and coated to name a few. Placement Getting the product in front of or visible to the consumer is essential, the old saying is that if you have a great product then you must be able to supply that product when the customer wants it and where they want it. Customer service and product availability are everything to the customer. We will expand into each market area such as Philadelphia by establishing a storefront and a small warehousing operation to handle the daily ordering, shipping and support for the market area. The store fronts will produce the product locally for retail and shipping within their market area so the product is fresh and doesn’t age. Our warehouse will stock mainly supplies for the production lines at the store front. A good example is Krispy Kreme, Inc. which uses each location to bake the donuts and then deliver to local vendors such as convenience stores, restaurants, events and other functions. We must be able to support the markets we are targeting. Consumer Characteristics From personal experience and as reflected in our market research most consumers prefer to purchase perishable consumables at a local store and we will need to entice our targeted consumers to come to the store fronts or to order online once they have tasted and enjoyed our products. Much like Starbucks whose coffee shops sell a lot of items not related to coffee we must consider adding the intrinsic items that our customers would find interesting such as free wireless internet access from each storefront. This feature would also help us promote our website and expand our customer base. We must continue to collect feedback from all of our market areas and customer to make sure we keep our product fresh and exciting. Distribution and Growth impacts As we grow we must make sure we have the infrastructure to supply our new markets and that our suppliers are aware of the expected increases in quantities we order and that they are able to keep up. We should also expect discounts for high volume orders. Centrally we will supply the national flower and gift basket company and the local market place. Our store fronts will supply their local markets to include internet orders, business orders and retail sales. Summary We will use all of this information provided today to continue our development of the marketing plan for IPT. I hope we have answered your questions and put to rest your doubts. If I can be of assistance in answering any other questions you might have please let me know as soon as possible. J.B. Priestly & the story Essay Example for Free

J.B. Priestly the story Essay After the Inspectors departure Birling admits that he has learnt a loti from his visit. However, he immediately singles out Eric as youre the one I blame for this [the scandal]i , so he still seems to have little notion of community as he should, if he had learnt anything, be saying were the ones to blame for thisi. Instead he seems to be shifting blame from himself. We can also see that as soon as the characters begin to construct doubts about the legitimacy of the Inspector he tries to find a way out of his predicament. As the story unravels he becomes excitedi on discovering that the Inspector is not real and soon he has managed to put the whole episode out of his head, despite protests from Eric and Sheila who try to tell him that you still havent learnt anything. i Birling is far more concerned about what may happen if the news comes out in public than whatever he did to Eva Smith and makes fun of Eric and Sheila for not being able to take a jokei. However, the phone call he receives at the end of the play is not at all funny to him. To sum up, from the play we can see that when Birling preaches his every man for himselfi philosophy he is very assured that he is right. The Inspectors questioning manages to make him change his mind slightly although he is still sure of what he believes in. When he sees a chance to get out of the embarrassing situation he has been put into he grabs it with both hands and manages to forget the lesson he has learnt during the evening. Sheila is probably the character who changes the most during the play. At the start of the action she is very happy about her engagement, pleased with life and rather excitedi. However, even at this point we pick up some of the qualities in her that are so marked later in the play, such as her clear stating of opinions which can be seen when she half-teases Gerald about his absence during the summer and her opinion of wine drinkers. Sheilas reaction on receiving her engagement ring from Gerald show her state of mind: Sheila: Oh its wonderful! Look Mummy isnt it a beauty? Oh darling! i Sheila appears to be inattentive over her fathers speeches at the dinner table and has to be told to listen. This suggests that she neither find his opinions interesting nor agrees with them, which may point to her future conduct in the play. Sheilas explanation of her conduct when interviewed by the Inspector shows how naive and thoughtless she was up to that point. However, unlike Birling she feels very upset about her conduct, shown by her running out of the room sobbing when first shown the photograph of Eva Smith. She also swears that she will never, never do it [behaving like that towards others] again to anybodyi. This is a turning point in the play for Sheila. Almost at once she sheds her image of being a naive and ignorant young lady and takes on the most profound understanding of the Inspectors message. During the rest of the play she often makes several cutting remarks during the other characters i interviews with the Inspector. For example, when the Inspector is talking to Mrs Birling she warns her mother not to block herself from Eva Smith in her answers to his questions: Mrs Birling: And in any case I dont suppose for a moment that we can understand why the girl committed suicide. Girls of that class Sheila : Mother, dontplease dont For your own sake, as well as ours, you musnt. Mrs Birling: Musnt what? Really, Sheila! Sheila : You musnt try to build up a kind of wall between us and that girl. If you do, the Inspector will just break it down Incidences such as this, where Sheila is clearly contradicting the opinion of her parents, lead Mrs Birling to remark to the Inspector that You seem to be making a great impression on the childi. The Inspectors response, that we often make an impression on the young onesi is proved to be true. The younger characters Sheila, Eric and to an extent Gerald, are able to see the Inspectors message realise that he is right. However, the older characters are too entrenched in their beliefs and still stubbornly cling to what they believe in.

Pharmacy sends up the antibiotics at 8:30 AM and the nurse begins infusion at 8:45 AM. At 9:00 AM, Mr. Joness blood pressure drops to 58/42, heart rate soars to 160 beats per minute, and he is unconscious and unresponsive. The staff frantically rushes to infuse IV fluid into Mr. Jones but he goes into cardiac arrest. All resuscitation attempts are made, but at 9:45, Mr. Jones is pronounced dead. Sepsis and bloodstream infections have become a major cause of hospitalization and death in the United States. In these situations it is a standard protocol to collect blood cultures before administration of antibiotic, however, this can often delay the treatment needed to reduce the chance of death of patients with septicemia. With new advances in culture collection technology, blood culture collection containers now contain antimicrobial removal media, which makes it no longer necessary to delay treatment of antibiotics in order to wait for untreated blood specimens to be collected. By using the antimicrobial removal media enriched blood collection containers for all patients with suspected sepsis, antibiotic treatment can be initiated faster, hospital stays will be shorter, cost of care will be decreased, and fewer people will die due to septicemia. Analysis of the Current Situation Currently, standard protocol for septic suspected patients is for blood cultures to be collected from two different ventipuncture sites before the initiation of any antibiotic therapy using aseptic technique. It is also recommended that antibiotic therapy be initiated within one hour of onset of septicemia. According to a research study by Anand Kumar (2006), every hour of delay in antimicrobial therapy result in an increase in mortality of 7.6%. While the majority of hospital facilities strive to achieve the goal of cultures and antimicrobial therapy within the one hour time frame, the reality is that very few are actually successful. It is estimated that only about 12% of patients actually receive the antimicrobial therapy within the first hour (Daniels, 2011). To make matters worse, emergency departments struggle with overcrowding. According to hospitalstats.org, the median emergency department wait time in the Clark County Valley is 3 hours 25 minutes (Hospital Stats, 2014). Identifying the signs and symptoms of sepsis is a huge barrier to providing timely treatment. Another huge problem with the standard protocol for cultures before antibiotic therapy is that 50% to 82% of patients presenting to the emergency or intensive care facilities with suspected septicemia have already been given an antibiotic before admission and culture collection (Zadroga et al., 2013). However, with the initiation of facilities using antimicrobial removal resin blood culture containers, such as BACTEC PLUS, many of the barriers to providing timely care to septic suspected patients can be overcome. BACTEC PLUS has been proven to recover 95.1% of bacterial pathogens in blood culture samples with therapeutic levels of antimicrobial agents present, and 100% of strains in control bottles (Flayhart, Borek, Wakefield, Dick, Carroll, 2007). Leading Change It is estimated that 20,000 people die worldwide every day from sepsis (Daniels, 2011). While the use of blood culture analysis is and always will be one of the most important evidence-based microbial testing procedures for determining diagnosis of septicemia, the need to wait for cultures to be drawn before administering life saving antimicrobial therapy is unnecessary. Patients with suspected septicemia need to be receiving antimicrobial therapy within the one hour time frame, whether or not cultures have been drawn. It needs to become standard protocol that the antimicrobial therapy be initiated in that one hour time frame, and move away from the standard being cultures first. To initiate this change, it is proposed that implementation of antimicrobial therapy be initiated immediately in septic suspected patients. The Process of Change Change will being in the emergency department. All medical staff, including physicians, nurses, LPNs, CNAs, and technicians will be informed of the change to take place by having multiple conferences and training sessions over a period of time, no less than four weeks, with a minimum of three different time slots occurring near shift change to accommodate all shifts for all employees to be able to attend. All attending staff will sign an agreement contract, including the understanding of the new policy to be implemented. Once they have been fully informed and have had the opportunity to express all misunderstanding and concerns with the new policy, implementation of the policy in the department will ensue. The emergency department will be fully stocked with BACTEC blood collection containers. Quality control agents will monitor compliance of the policy to record all valid data associated, including time frames of initiation of the antimicrobial agent and blood culture analysis using the antimicrobial removal media. Most importantly, infection control will assess the outcome of patients with confirmed septicemia and will closely evaluate the new treatment plan to verify if the policy is proving to be helpful in improving the outcome of patient survival rates. Impact of Change If outcomes are positive, the facility can being to implement the policy, following the same steps already stated, to more departments and continue to evaluate the effectiveness of the policy on each department until the entire facility is using the policy. In order to initiate the change it will take a team effort. All staff will need to comply in ensuring that all septic patients are receiving the antimicrobial therapy within the one hour time frame, regardless if cultures have been drawn first or not. This will be imperative for analysis as to if the new policy is effective in reducing the mortality rate of septic patients. Conclusion Sepsis infections are going to continue to be a major cause of hospitalization, but with new protocols including ensuring administration of antibiotics in septic suspected patients within the one hour time frame of onset regardless if cultures have been collected first, we can reduce the chance of death for these patients. As medical staff, we need to use the advances in culture collection containers like BACTEC to initiate faster treatment, which will make hospital stays shorter, decrease cost of care, and most importantly, save more lives. Defining an Individual Essay -- Expository Definition Essays Papers In

Defining an Individual What is an individual? How can one become an individual? Is it even possible to become an individual in society? Can we successfully distinguish ourselves from the majority to make our own decisions? How does your family affect your personality and every day decision making: your ethics and morals? How does your childhood affect you today? How does it affect our subconscious-something we can not control and we do not have access to? Is it possible to go back in time and completely erase everything we have been taught through years of brainwashing and manipulation, not only from the system that we are brought up in but also the family and lifestyles that are now part of us? The term "individual" as seen from the Webster's New Universal Unabridged Dictionary states as follows: Individual- 1. Originally, not divisible, not separate. 2. Existing as a single, separate thing or being; single, separate, particular. 3. Of, for or by a single person or thing. 4. Relating to or characteristic of a single person or thing. 5. Distinguished from others by special characteristics, of a particular or striking character, as an individual style. People claim to be individuals every day. Everywhere we go " individuals" follow us. They are on television, in movies, newspapers, magazines, they even live with us, in our homes. Everyone has a deep desire to stand apart. " Pave your own way." A classic example of individualistic patterns set from a society that at the same time pushes you away from that idea. In a very literal sense to be an individual you need to live every moment of your existence in your very own personal way. Not hindered by the outside and inside persuasions, yo... ...hy people rebel against the idea that it is impossible to be an individual. In conclusion, it is not the fact that we are all individuals separate from each other or society. The fact remains that it is impossible to delve into your own subconscious and erase everything we have been taught and brainwashed. The important idea to remember is the relationship we have with our society and each other that truly is unique. That is where the individuality comes into play. Trying to separate ourselves and prove ourselves different is only going to frustrate even the most intelligent of characters. The world that we live in, no matter how incredibly large it may seem, is made for each and everyone of us. What we do with what society has set in us and what we do with all that we have been taught is the true answer in the ultimate question: Individuality- Is it possible?

The Role of Paralegals in the Legal System Essay -- Legal Assistant

Justice. It is something that everyone wants, something that we strive for, even something that sparks. However, when we think of lawyers, we think of superheroes with an expensive education, walking into the courtroom and serving up justice. What no one thinks of is the person that helped the lawyer get there, the paralegal that prepares the necessary documents, the paralegal that makes sure his or her attorney is at the right place at the right time. A paralegal is crucial and in some cases vital to our justice system yet they are so often over looked. To understand what a paralegal does we must first understand what the job of a lawyer entails. Black’s Law Dictionary defines a lawyer as â€Å"a person learned in the law; as an attorney, counsel or solicitor; a person who is practicing law.† Attorneys generally have around seven years of a college education under their belt, they have the authority to argue their clients case before a judge and jury. Just because a person has a law degree does not necessarily mean that they are skilled lawyers. One could have the best education money can buy but still be a lousy attorney. Practice and careful preparation is needed before one goes to court, but there is still one thing that is invaluable to an attorney. Experience. All of the classes in the world could not prepare one for the nerve that it takes to stand before a judge and jury with your client beside you trusting you to put up a fight. I had the opportunity to witness the behind the scenes action as a young attorney recently prepared for his first trial. What I saw is not what would normally happen but it is something that does happen. Cases of Influenza :: Journalism Influenza Health Essays

Cases of Influenza ST. LOUIS, Missouri.--The State Health Department has confirmed that there have been 666 new cases of influenza today, 134 more since yesterday. Also it has been confirmed, sadly, that there has been 59 deaths, up 15 since yesterday, and making the grand total at 5,067 deaths in just three weeks. 21 of the deaths recorded yesterday were of pneumonia. Thus this epidemic seems to weaken the body so much that it is not the only cause of death, pneumonia is as well. As we keep track of the new cases and of the fatal ones, they have urged the public to stay calm as they are trying to do everything in their power to put an end to this. They are spending all hours seeking the source and coming up with a cure. At a time while our boys are overseas fighting and some losing their lives, the people in St. Louis are battling their own problems with this epidemic. It almost seems the casualty numbers are mimicking each other, not to say they are suffering from the same kind of fate. Just a shame that there are two wars going on two different fronts, one overseas in Europe and the other here at home, trying to battle this disease, virus, bacteria, whatever it is. So far they are unclear as to where the disease came from and how it spreads. There have been several theories as to what the culprit is and what the public should do in response to this news. One doctor feels that people should avoid all contact with other people, closing all public arenas, and going as far as wearing masks outside. Some doctors disagree with this, claiming it is unwarranted and unnecessary. They just feel that people should be sanitary and keep a safe distance from people and areas that look unclean. Also they warn to stay away from alleyways and animals that fester in them. It might be that these dirty animals are harboring the disease and spreading it from fleas or other contagious ways. However, it has been seen that most cases of the influenza are stemming from the inner-city. There are instances of people outside of the inner-city but not as numerous. So department officials have been sent to the inner-city to gather evidence and try to track any trends stemming from the start and spread of this disease.

The terminal Jahiliyyah heart the plosive speech sound of ignorance or tongue smoothing the Arabian tillage aheadhand the deliver of Muhammad(Mvumb i, 2010). The image resiles the item in which Arabia had no dispensation, no acquaintance of Allah or mavin immortal and no revea guide hallowed textual matter (Hitti, 1987). The Jahiliyyah represents a pagan milest angiotensin-converting enzyme, as Muslims weigh they transiti geniusd from an current of ignorance to the tip of cognition and insight (Armstrong, 1991). The apparitional note of Jahiliyyah is historic to see to it in roam to figure Moslem monotheism. The apparitional fleck of pre-Muslim manu incidentures wizs discretion of the origins and developments of Islam, as Islam is a civilization, shade and holiness. The enormousness of the opinion is because Islam genuine and reinforced on a preceding Arabian righteousness. fore almost the grounds the geographic kettle of fish and characteristics of that hitch would decl atomic number 18 and shape peerlesss intelligence of Islam and coating. The Arabian peninsula is cover with leave and dissever in ii sectors the atomic number 7 and the sulfur(Mvumbi, 2010). The geographical characteristics influences the cultural and ghostly situation. The Federal unwrap were a plain ships company and the grey dissipate had lasting settlements such as Yemen and the Bedouin feel- room (Mvumbi, 2010). Areas such as Yemen were burning(prenominal) because of its travel civilizations, impregnable unload and lively cultivation. swell up-nigh beas were hospitable, recondite in sustenance and water, and condescensions such as spicery trades (Hoyland, 2001). The ravage created a crude milieu with utmost(a) conditions, the climate change from northwest to south influencing large number of the prison term to be meandering(a) (Brockelman, 1960). The wandering disembodied spirit- expression created sub-cultures which led to the revolution of lingual communications. The trade, agriculture and linguistics are of import capricels that tolerate had momentous enormousness to Islam righteousness and culture (Goodman, 1999). .For example, it is believed that Muhammad was a bargainer who aflame the evolution of trade in Mecca (Goodman, 1999). It is powerfully believed that Islam and Arabians spectral brain was innate(p) the grandeur of the desert, this powerfully accent wherefore it is all master(prenominal)(p) to control Jahiliyyah as the grow of Islam arrest in this uttermost (Mvumbi, 2010). The Arabians at bottom that rate of flow believed in religion, were more polytheism sharpen than the monotheism vista of today. They believed in deities, these deities were the daughters of Allah, the controlling god (Husayn, 1982). They built temples for their idols in fussy at Makka it was the most phantasmal place. These rulings of Jahiliyyah reflect Islam as the Moslem creed was set-back revealed in Makka and the fact that Arabians had the design of a autonomous iodin and al sensation matinee idol pr evious to the climb on of Islam (Mvumbi, 2010). The ring religion such as Judaism and Christianity whom had a monotheistic cartel influenced the Arabians and Islam of today. This reinforces that Arabia preceding to Islam divided up concurrence of paragon before Muhammad (Mvumbi, 2010). These appoint rulers demo that Islam was a revival and lengthening of Jahiliyyah and this stresses the wideness of that creation. an early(a)(prenominal) element of the Jahiliyyah goal was the policy-making and well-disposed life, such as the Bedouin society. The policy-making coordinate was tribal found, that consisted of individuals who participated in large groups (Weissleder, 1978). This tribal cheek reflects the follow leadinghip of Muhammad as tribal dominions were seen as an justice than a ruler (Weissleder, 1978). This policy-making grammatical construction influenced the Shura ashes. The level-headed system of this effect was based on tribal or ordinary virtu e which influenced the Islamic communities of today(Weissleder, 1978). This element reinforces why Jahiliyyah fulfilment influence the origins and collar of Islam. alike the accessible integrating of pre-Islamic shapes our correspondence of Islam. The notion of tender integration demonstrable indoors the baffling and Sassanic goal (Hoyland, 2001). The Sassanic dynasty influenced the Islamic administrative system, it was too the race of the argument family surrounded by the two dynasties (Hoyland, 2001). Although these dynasties were war-ridden they share a parking lot value such as universe proudists and concurrence (Hoyland, 2001).The imperial mercenary cyberspace meant that the leaders had to talk terms and political rapports were created with the empires and harmony prevailed. The Bedouins became the foundational symbolism of Arab nationhood indistinguishability (Hoyland, 2001). They became the nationhood individuation by their signifi lavatoryt u n write contagious rhyme and written Arabic literature, which became the undercoat and sum of m iy oral communication and benevolence of Islam (Hoyland, 2001). The pre-Islamic poetry was rattling delicately and unique, it became the linguistic meter of the interpretations of the Quran. It is famed that the pre-Islamic verse was a primaeval aspect of tribal secular secular humanism and in a common sense contri justed to Islamic humanism (Hoyland, 2001). This once once more fight down that the pre-Islamic cessation intertwines with recognize tenets of Islam and shapes ones intelligence that Islam follow foundational principles. along with the exceedingly value Arabic poetry and row, is the pick out ardour of language such as Saj of Kuhhan. The rhyme complex body part a distinguishing run around of Saj became Arabic prose (Hoyland, 2001). The style of Saj is sheer at heart the Quran, by examineing the style one may get word the socio-cultural mis e en scene that this emerged from as well as how the pre-Islamic language has been adopt by Islam. another(prenominal) pick out principle of the pre-Islamic current of duration was the office of the Kaba and ghostlike applys. It is important to look for the rituals of the Jahiliyyah archetype to note the similarities, adoptations and continuation of principles that is reflected in Islam. For example, during the Jahiliyyah, at that place was reverend cease-fire diaphragm to the Kaba which occurred for trey months, the one-year pilgramage which is direct the ritual of the hajj for Muslims (Armstrong, 1999). The plainly other oddment of the occasion of the Kaba was during that sentence inside the Kaba there was leash ascorbic acid and cardinal idols of reverence in spite of appearance the Kaba (Armstrong, 1999). The utilise of Islam such as refrain could be reflected in the pre-Islamic practices thus far it was the elision of inquisition and versed u se (Armstrong, 1999). So rituals that were effective end-to-end the pre-Islamic layover were adopted and compound into Islam. By examining these rituals it reinforces the impressiveness of rationality the pre-Islamic conclusion. By consciousness the fantasy of Jahiliyyah one would understand the continuity, the improvements and changes of principles exhibit indoors Islam. These changes, variation can be viewed by the ideals of women and jointure deep down the pre-islamic gunpoint and the ideals of women and married couple in Islam. For example, pre-Islamic close endogamy, polygamy and polyandry were common. Whereas,Quranic revelations indicates the instruction on polygamy sort of than polyandry until now it was revealed at the time where the socio- context had change magnitude numbers of widows. Similarly, the idea of an pro tem marriage, this at heart pre-Islamic goal was instigated by a muliebrity and in the Shiite practice it is scarcely allowable by the man. This notion parallels with divorce, women were allowed to dribble their husbands that with the Sharis women are disadvantage when in movement to divorce. The grammatical gender unlikeness is reflect in womens lineaments as well. Women in pre-Islamic period were precondition a emplacement, they were involve in forecasting and had a religious function they in like manner had the consideration of entertaining. However, Orthodox Islam has rejected the principle of prominent women status and equality. The situation of women within the pre-Islamic period reflects how Islam does not always adopt the principles of pre-Islamic period, but earlier rejects well-nigh notions. As the prove exhibit the period of Jahiliyyah has significantly contributed to the conquest of the visionary Muhammads mission. world-shattering features of the Jahiliyyah such geographical mending the political, social and religious life pre-islamic literature, rituals of the Kaba and the role of Women piddle cause the taking into custody of Islam. These features bear present the Islamic religion within context of its origins and development.
